Vinyl vs. Digital: Does the Medium Shape the Soul?

I started on vinyl. I still remember my first record — a dusty deep house import I found in a market in Kraków. I didn’t even own turntables yet, but I held it like treasure.

Years later, digital took over. USBs, rekordbox, syncing, looping, sampling. At first I resisted. It felt… too easy. But I was wrong. It wasn’t easier. Just different.

Vinyl: The Ritual

There’s something sacred about cueing a record. The weight, the scratch, the fact that mistakes matter. You don’t loop a vinyl track — you commit to it. You build patience. You train your ear.

Digital: The Canvas

Digital opened a new world for me. Four-deck mixes. Live edits. Vocal chops on the fly. With my controller and pads, I feel like a painter — not just selecting tracks but shaping stories in real time.

Which One Wins?

Neither. I don’t believe in purity tests.

Today, I carry both in my setup. Some gigs are vinyl-only. Others are full-blown digital with FX racks and sample triggers. It’s not the medium. It’s how you move souls with it.
